This is my second week, working on the Film Literacy PhD for City of Film, and I thought it would be a great idea to document my PhD journey and the research!

The original premise was to observe the Film Literacy project, which is currently taking place in nine primary schools, and report on the findings. This might change over the next weeks, but for now, I am out to gather hard, quantitative data, researching literacy levels.
The first task is really to define the term 'film literacy' and it seems that neither the BFI nor all of the other film education organisations out there are really sure what it is! Some people argue for learning THROUGH film while others just want kids to learn ABOUT film. I am currently working my way through the BFI documentation and hope to have a better idea (and an initial lit review) by Christmas.
